Senegal and Malaysia established diplomatic relations in 2002. Since then, bilateral cooperation has been satisfactory and is in a good dynamic.
Among the official visits, it is worth noting those of the former President of the Republic who stayed three times in Malaysia within the framework of the holding of international conferences organized in Kuala Lumpur to take part in the 13th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement, held in Kuala Lumpur from February 20 to 25, 2003, at the 10th OIC Summit from October 16 to 18, 2003 and at the 6th World Islamic Economic Forum ( WIEF ) or World Islamic Forum, from May 18 to 20, 2010.
The President of the Republic, H. E Macky SALL was invited by the Malaysian Government to the 12th Session of the World Islamic Economic Forum ( WIEF ) in Jakarta, from August 2 to 4, 2016.
The bilateral relationship is marked by the strengthening of political dialogue through exchanges of letters, participation in official meetings and mutual support for international candidacies. Thus, Malaysia has supported Senegal in Senegal’s candidacy for the United Nations Security Council for the period 2016-2018 and for the Executive Council of UNESCO. In return, Senegal supported Malaysia’s candidacy for the Executive Board of UNESCO.
Today, the two (2) countries are members of several international bodies and can strengthen their convergence of views on several issues. They are currently non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, members of the Executive Council of UNESCO, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) among other
